#10 - Toy Story 3 (2010)

Everyone’s favorite playroom toys are back for another adventure.  Released in 2010, 15 years after the original Toy Story, this film is often considered the best of the series by critics and fans.  Winner of two Academy Awards, Toy Story 3 was a huge box office hit, earning more revenue than the first two films of the series combined.  It surpassed one billion dollars globally, making it the highest grossing animated film of all time until it was undone by Disney’s Frozen in 2014.  This film has a darker and more emotional tone than the previous two, adjusting with the audience that grew up with the franchise

#9 - Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983)

One of the most anticipated films of all time, Return of the Jedi hit theaters in May of 1983.  After the bombshell ending of the previous film, Jedi wraps up George Lucas’ original trilogy in a nice and fulfilling way.  This film finally showcases the final battle between the rebellion and the evil empire.  Winning one of the four Oscars that it was nominated for, Jedi was both adored by critics and a commercial success.  It would be the last to feature beloved characters Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo until the release of The Force Awakens some 32 years later.

#8 - Toy Story (1995)

The first Pixar film certainly has a friend in me.  The 1995 animated buddy comedy was the first entirely computer animated feature film, leading to it earning a special achievement Oscar for accomplishing that feat.  This children’s tale introduces classic characters such as Woody and Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, respectively.  Ever since its premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, Toy Story has brought joy to moviegoers around the globe.

#7 - Coco (2017)

Inspired by the Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead, this animated fantasy film was an instant hit for Pixar Studios.   It won many accolades, including two Oscars (Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song). Released in Mexico before opening anywhere else, the film with the highest budget ever for a film featuring an all latino cast made over 800 million dollars worldwide. This film has everything: laughs, music, a great message, and beautiful visuals. Coco will be looked back on for many years as one of Pixar’s best.

#6 - Avengers: Endgame (2019)

All good things come to an end, game. The culmination of the overarching story spanning the first 21 Marvel Cinematic Universe films, Endgame is the highest grossing film in movie history. The final battle features over 35 superheroes and gives chills to viewers all around the world. The stakes were never higher for Marvel and Disney and they delivered with what is arguably the greatest superhero film of all time.

#5 - WALL-E (2008)

Nominated for six Academy Awards, WALL-E won the award for Best Animated Feature Film. The six nominations are the most for any Pixar movie. The computer animated science fiction film delighted audiences with its heartfelt story, great message, romance, and impressive visuals. It’s best known for its minimal dialogue, pushing the story with non-verbal cues and a well orchestrated music score. WALL-E’s commitment to never giving up inspired an entire generation to do the same and to do better by our planet.

#4 - Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Before you get to the end, you have to know how we got there. Infinity War is directly connected to Avengers: Endgame, considered part one and part two of the same journey. Infinity War brings all of Marvel’s greatest characters together for the final showdown with the ultra powerful Thanos. With an ending that shocked audiences around the globe, Infinity War is the highest ranking MCU on the IMDb top rated films list.

#3 - The Lion King (1994)

Can you feel the love tonight for the highest ranking Disney Animation Studios movie on the IMDB top rated films list? The Lion King was an instant hit for Disney, spawning two sequels, an animated TV series, video games, a CGI reboot, and a highly successful Broadway show. Led by powerhouses Hans Zimmer, Elton John, and Tim Rice, The Lion King earned four Oscar nominations, including three separate song nominations in the Best Original Song category. The three best song nominations are the most of all time by one film, eventually being tied by the films Dreamgirls and another Disney movie: Enchanted. The amazing music and humbling adventure make The Lion King a true masterpiece.

#2 - Star Wars: A New Hope (1977)

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…. was the release of the very first film in the Star Wars saga. Star Wars, retroactively titled Star Wars: A New Hope, is one of the most revolutionary films in cinema history. The innovated special effects would change the way that science fiction films are made. Nominated for 10 Academy Awards and taking home six, New Hope introduces the world to Luke, Leia, Han, Darth Vader, the force, and so much more. Arguably the greatest film franchise of all time, George Lucas’ Star Wars universe is still a huge part of the pop culture zeitgeist today.

#1 - Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

Things were looking great for the rebellion after our previous entry, but then the Empire came back bigger and better. That growth can also be applied to the Star Wars sequel, which upped the stakes greatly from the first film. Audiences fell in love with new characters like Yoda, Lando Calrissian, and Boba Fett as we uncovered new areas of the galaxy. Most die hard fans of Star Wars agree with Empire’s top ranking within the franchise, referencing the battle scenes and huge plot twist as its best moments.
